Event Overview
As part of the 2017 Northern Tour, Her Honour conducted an official visit to the Municipality of Greenstone. Her Honour met privately with His Worship Renald Beaulieu, participated in a roundtable about sustainability and the experiences of northern municipalities, and attended a reception with community members at the Geraldton Interpretive Centre. Her Honour then travelled via logging roads to the Junior Canadian Rangers’ Camp Loon, a summer program aimed at fostering life and leadership skills for Indigenous youth. Her Honour toured the Camp with the Commander of the 4th Division, joined for a celebratory dinner, and participated in the closing ceremonies. During her time in Greenstone, Her Honour also met with the fire management staff at the Geraldton Airport and had a roundtable with the Ontario Native Women's Association.

Greenstone is one of the largest municipalities in Canada by area (3,172 sq. km.). It was created by the amalgamation of the former municipalities of the Town of Geraldton, the Town of Longlac, the Township of Nakina and the Township of Beardmore, and an extensive area of unincorporated territory including numerous settlement areas such as Caramat, Jellicoe and MacDiarmid.
