The Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III and Her Majesty Queen Consort Camilla took place on May 6, 2023. Learn more about how Ontarians commemorated this momentous occasion.
The Office of the Lieutenant Governor partnered with the Empire Club of Canada to present a special panel discussion about the Coronation and the Crown in Canada.
To commemorate The King’s Coronation, the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, Premier Doug Ford, Speaker Ted Arnott, and Indigenous leaders held a flag raising ceremony, 21-gun salute, and drum circle at 11:15 a.m. on May 6. The ceremony also include a special presentation of the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers.

Following the ceremony, the Government of Ontario hosted a ‘Coronation Celebration: A Fun Royal Fair.’ It was held on the South Lawn of Queen’s Park from noon to 6 p.m. Family fun activities included carnival rides and live entertainment. A ‘Taste of Ontario’ provided complimentary food and beverages from Ontario farmers and processors.
On May 4th and May 5th, The Office of the Lieutenant Governor initiated a special concert series that brought the music of the Coronation to more than 20 long-term care homes across the province. This four-part concert series featured Ontarian musicians and it was presented in partnership with Concerts in Care.

On May 27 and 28 the Lieutenant Governor’s Suite at Queen’s Park hosted a special Coronation-themed Doors Open experience.
The Lieutenant Governor provided 15 video messages to people across the province as they celebrated the Coronation in their local communities.
