Her Honour the Hon. Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, will continue the tradition of honouring Ontarians by making presentations on January 1, 2022, to three recipients of the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers (SMV).
The medal recognizes the exceptional volunteer achievements of Canadians from across the country in a wide range of fields and pays tribute to the dedication and commitment of volunteers. They embody the caring country we aspire to build. Learn more here.

Recipients
Name: Olga Lambert
Location: Ajax, Ontario
Citation: Olga Lambert is a passionate promoter of ethnocultural diversity in Canada, and has been engaged in organizing multiple multicultural music festivals in the GTA, such as Carassauga and Afrofest. Over the last 26 years, she has also volunteered with the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program, where she helps people with their income tax applications in both official languages.
Name: Major (Retired) Kanwal Sethi
Location: Richmond Hill, Ontario
Citation: Since 2003, Kanwal Sethi has been dedicated to the international military community at the Canadian Forces College. In addition to creating the Sethi Inukshuk Award, he is the founder and organizer of the annual homecoming garden party celebration for the Canadian Forces College.
Name: Maduba Ahmad
Location: Mississauga, Ontario
Citation: For over a decade, Maduba Ahmad has been serving her faith community in leadership roles with several organizations, including Parliament of the World’s Religions and MuslimFest. Her volunteer work has had a positive impact on youth morale and has contributed to improved budgeting and finances, as well as increased community involvement and attendance.
