Following Sunday’s terrorist attack in London, on behalf of the people of Ontario, I offer my deepest condolences to all people of Muslim faith in this province.
This senseless act of violence is a solemn reminder of how important it is to build bridges and empathy with our neighbours, communities, cultures, and faiths.
My memories of joyful interfaith Iftar dinners in the Lieutenant Governor’s Suite, visits to mosques, and volunteering with Muslim groups who contribute so much to the fabric of our society, reinforce that we cannot allow this tragedy to diminish the generosity and spirit of the Muslim community.
The powerful outpouring of support I have seen over the last few days is a testament to the people of this province. Shoulder to shoulder we grieve.
As the Queen’s representative in Ontario, at this time of pain, know that this province stands in solidarity with Canada’s Muslim community against hatred and Islamophobia.
– The Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario
