The Hon. Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, will celebrate the New Year in the company of Ontarians, joined by Hamilton Mayor Fred Eisenberger.
The Lieutenant Governor’s 2018 New Year’s Levee will take place on Monday, January 1, 2018 from noon to 2 p.m. at Hamilton City Hall (71 Main Street West). The event is free and open to the public.
The New Year’s Levee is a unique chance for the public to meet Her Majesty’s representative in Ontario, learn about the Lieutenant Governor’s role and responsibilities, and enjoy local entertainment. This year, Her Honour will continue the practice of bringing the Lieutenant Governor’s New Year’s Levee to communities across Ontario. This is the first time the levee will take place in Hamilton, a growing city whose rich history and culture complement its dedication to sustainable development. Most recently the Lieutenant Governor was in Hamilton to take part in The Queen’s Baton Relay in advance of the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
The entertainment and displays featured at this year’s levee will highlight the diversity, history, and innovation that help to define the city of Hamilton. Highlights include:
- Complimentary refreshments
- Canada 150 signature initiative, SESQUI virtual reality experience
- Dundurn Castle photo booth and period dress up clothing
- Bel Canto Youth Choir Ensemble
- Children’s colouring area
- Work by local artists Christopher McLeod and Nicole Clouston
