Annual reports are valuable documents of accountability. The people of Ontario deserve to know what I am up to and how public money is spent. Equally important in my view is that such reports offer Ontarians an opportunity to see the province that I get to see on a daily basis.

Amid changing and often uncertain times, the people of Ontario are doing great things. I know because I have seen it. Over 716 public engagements during the past year, I have witnessed a renewed sense of civic health and pride in communities all across our province.

Driven by the hope of a better future, Ontarians are developing new ways to relate to each other, and many are pushing against the tide of isolationism and insular thinking that has swept up many more around the world.

We are building a more just and resilient society designed to meet head on the unknown challenges of the years to come. We are succeeding, making the most of the resources with which we have been blessed, and the tools we have created for ourselves: the arts, innovations in science and technology, and new methods of thinking about intractable problems.

Ontarians have been resolute in upholding the values of inclusion, generosity, and the desire to help others. So too have we embraced, as global citizens, the opportunity and obligation of engaging with people and places beyond our borders.
There is, however, much more to be done, and I look forward to our continuing to proudly join forces in the year ahead.
