“Today Ontarians will pause to remember the events that took place near Yonge and Finch one year ago. Together we mourn and pay tribute to the lives cut short and forever altered and recognize the impact that day continues to have on us all.
It has been extraordinary to see the way in which Torontonians, and people from across the province and country, have responded to the tragedy. We are reminded of the incredible bravery of the Toronto Police Service, first responders, and of regular citizens, who came together to help one another, offer a shoulder to cry on, and an ear to listen.
Indeed, in our moments of greatest risk and pain, we see what is most resilient in each other.
Let this day remind us of all that we have lost but also of the great strength of the people of Ontario.”
– the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario
